Business Travel Survey Reveals Important Insights

The YPB&R/Yankelovich Partners National Business Travel Monitor is an insider's guide to business travel trends. Here are some highlights from the 2005 report and why they matter:

What we learned: Why you should care:
Almost two-thirds of business travelers who are airline/hotel users believe that they get the best prices for travel services from the Internet, yet a significantly higher proportion of business travelers report using the services of a travel agent in 2005 (32%) compared to 2004 (25%). Using event planning services could make economic sense in the long-run.
Six in 10 "road warrior" types want wireless Internet access in the guest room and most of them want it for free. Three in 10 also say they want a printer, fax or multi-line phone in their "command center." Leave salespeople unconnected during a three-day meeting and they may be checking out sooner than you'd like.
A substantial proportion of business travelers continue to cite sleep deprivation as a major issue when traveling. Plan your agenda accordingly. Team functions are fine at night, but start them as early as possible to avoid late nights. And don't plan a brainstorming session for 8 a.m.
A full 73% of business travelers surveyed say it is extremely/very important that others see them as passionate about the things they care about. Allow passion in! Meetings need to become more experiential. Turn attendees into participants! Breakouts are a great means to this end.
