Thriving On Chaos

Las Vegas lends a helping hand to part-time planners

People make careers out of event planning, but your corporate penny-pinchers have asked you to once again handle everything in-house. If you're Las Vegas bound, no worries! The city's resorts are ready to win hearts with their extra hands.

"I have developed quite a rapport with Bellagio, and their attention to detail is absolutely the role model in the industry for others to emulate," says Ilene Greenfield, who puts Wackenhut Corporation's annual Gold Club celebration together. "They understand what we are trying to achieve and they go out of their way to make it happen. They never say, 'No!'"

Which is not to say that loads of work isn't done on Greenfield's end as well. "One of my main objectives is to solicit the talent of other Wackenhut employees to achieve our goal and keep outside costs to a minimum," she says.

The Wackenhut team begins planning next year's Gold Club event almost immediately after the current year's celebration ends. A theme is selected and the in-house marketing group designs the place cards, invitations, menu, memory books and a PowerPoint program. "It's like planning a dinner party with a lot more guests," says Greenfield.
