Ambition Isn’t A Guy Thing
Aggressive salesmen are admired for their ambition; women often are subjected to a double standard.
“Ambition isn’t a dirty word, but as far as many women are concerned, it might as well be,” says Debra Condren, an executive coach and author of Am*BITCH*ous (Morgan Road Books, 2006).
“High-achieving women all harbor the same dirty little secret, no matter our backgrounds: we all struggle with socially sanctioned failure to embrace our ambition. We all have the same pernicious audio loop playing between our ears: ‘Will being as ‘amBITCHous’ as I dream of being make me less of a woman?’”
Condren says it’s time for women to reclaim ambition as a virtue that’s not monopolized by men.
Am•BITCH•ous: adj. (def.) a woman who:
makes more money
has more power
gets the recognition she deserves
has the determination to go after her dreams and can do it with integrity
Debra Condren’s blog can be accessed via her Web site, www.amBITCHous.com.”
