Women Want Some “We” Time Marriott recently announced and then scrapped plans to have an entire floor of a new Grand Rapids, Mich., hotel reserved for women only. The story stirred debates about whether providing women a refuge on the road is discrimination or a solid marketing concept. No matter your stance on the issue, it’s clear that business women are a group worth catering too, including in your internal incentive programs and how your company interacts with female clients. Women-only networking events built around shopping excursions or spa visits are increasingly popular. Find out how and why more companies are sponsoring gender-specific outings.
Meeting Sinatra Style If he was alive today, Frank Sinatra wouldn’t know whether to belittle the idea of women-only hotel floor or make a beeline for it. It’s ironic then, that the Chairman of the Board’s former Palm Springs mansion would make a fabulous setting for a female business retreat. If you missed our story and video on unique meeting venues the first time around, you can still catch it online: Frank Sinatra's Twin Palms mansion.
Sales Negotiations Don’t Have To Be Complicated Is your sales team always getting beat up on price? There’s a better way. Every negotiation hinges on only two elements, says consultant Brian Dietmeyer. Find out why he says your salespeople shouldn’t give in on customers’ cost demands.
Are You A Flying ARSE? One reason that Marriott considered creating a hotel room floor for women in the first place is because men – particularly businessmen on the road – can often be, well… less than gentlemanly. Business travel is stressful enough without numbskulls increasing your displeasure. Of course, there are plenty of women travelers who make things tough on the rest of us as well. Stanford management professor and business book author Robert Sutton, author of the best-selling The No Asshole Rule, has developed a 24-question self-test that will help you determine whether you are a pleasure to fly with or a pain. Are you a Flying ARSE? Take the test to find out: http://www.flyingarse.com |
